I do have the same problem with my 84 corolla and I discovered that some brands are better than the other. For example: Hess was the best and Mobil was the worst. My solution for the problem was to find the cheapest premium fuel and treat the car to it once in a while. It seem to help the problem a little even when I am using unleaded regular 87 octane.
