This series has slowly become one of my favorites. Though a more drawn out conflict might have been a more satisfying climax, I really liked Fathom's "final solution". My only reservation was that I did not think she had that sort of power. I do agree that the confrontation between Saker and Vortex was poorly handled. The story-telling on those pages was clumsy and awkward. On the other hand, I have no problem with the way things ended. Given the relationship between Saker and the source of his power the ending seemed reasonable and internally consistent.
