I've worn glasses continually since I was around 6 years old
(I'm 20 now), and I'm thinking of getting contacts.  I'm fairly
near-sighted and have some astigmatism in both eyes.  My eyes
have gone steadily worse throughout the years; I need to get
new lenses every couple of years or so.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of types of contact
lenses (i.e.  hard, soft, extended-wear, etc.)?

Any information would be appreciated.
