They are used in Mexican cooking as a vegetable side dish, or in places where green tomatoes and/or chilis might be used. You must peel them before using unless you want a mouthful of spiny prickles (ouch). Out here you cannot get them canned, much less fresh (not that I like them that much anyway - probably an ``acquired taste''). Lisa Rau
