Is this a bug in hack, or is there some hardware problem >that our engineers have managed to overlook all these years? The message we were getting for awhile was: "Read 0 bytes instead of 4..."etc. This was happpening on a regular basis for awhile when descending from level 1 --it just started doing it one day. If you could get past level 1 without it happening, you were okay. A couple of days after this had been going on, I happened to be looking in the hack directory to see if a bones file I wanted had actually been created and noticed an alock.1 file. That seemed strange because I knew no one else was on the machine playing at the time. I removed it, and the problem went away -- I guess it had somehow not been removed automatically when it should have been (probably a crash). Anyway, check your hack directory where level files are created for suspicious ones and remove them. Hope it helps. Diane Holt Interactive Systems Corp. ima!ism780!dianeh
