     I'm looking for some basic investment advice. I'm new to this country,
and need to invest a few thousand $. I can't risk losing money, so the sort
of thing I'm looking for is a fixed- or floating-interest bond (government,
bank, whatever, as long as its safe.) Does anyone have any advice? 
I'm just sure I can do better than my bank's deposit account, but not sure
where to look. Will post a summary of replies to the net, if there's sufficient
interest.
