                  COMPUTER SYSTEMS MANAGER

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:  1) Directs, under guidance of the faculty
Computer Committee, the departmental research and instruc-
tion computer facility (3 Masscomps running Unix).  Includes
providing computer consulting for users of the facility,
maintaining the facility, and specifying new computer equip-
ment acquisitions.  2) Assist in the design and implementa-
tion of computer-controlled measurement equipment such as
seismographs, electron microscope.  This includes specifying
algorithms and consulting on digital logic design.  3)
Supervise professional programmers, staff, and students
employed to work on computer problems within the department.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

DEGREE AND AREA OF SPECIALIZATION:  B.S. in Computer Sci-
ence, Math, or Physics.

MINIMUM NUMBER OF YEARS AND TYPE OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERI-
ENCE: At least three years in systems programming, real-time
systems, scientific programming, systems administration.
