trb?  never heard of the guy.

Yes, RCurtis, I'm out here, ever grepping for my uid in netnews text,
waiting to respond.  I was ousted by Sandinistas at masscomp during an
intenso political shuffle (su madre!), I'm at ISC now, which is nice
and close to the Brookline home for retired network stars (where I
live).  I don't post to net.singles or net.religion or any of those fun
groups hardly at all any more, cuz they got to be too much to read
(netnews junkie overdose).  You can find me in net.games.chess.  Mail
to me at ima!trb.  Right now, ima is subject to address parsing brain
damage and notesfiles too, but this should be changing soon, so if my
headers look anemic, fear not, it won't be long.

You're right that RR wasn't the original AI project.  Lauren Weinstein
deserves that designation on the ARPANET.  I was called the original
USENET AI project.  (AI projects are not self designated.)  Mark Horton
was also a frontrunner, but he was too deterministic to be an AI
project.  Chuqui and RR and Lady Arwen and all those others were
later.  Back when I was a boy, all we argued about was A and B, and
whether or not the net would be overseen by the likes of Mark Horton
and his "egghead academician cronies" (this was back when mrh was an
egghead at UCB -- this designation earned me my first claim to net fame).

Anyway, those days are gone, you can't keep the whole netmap in your
head anymore, and like Yogi Berra says, nobody goes there anymore, it's
too crowded.

Oh yea, a joke.  Old Jewish lady in a movie theater runs out to the
manager.  "Mr. Manager, I want my money back, the lions are eating the
Jews!"  "No dear, you're mistaken, those are Christians, the lions are
eating the Christians."  The lady says ok, and goes back into the
theater.  Five minutes later, she stomps out and demands her money back
