Can anyone give me information on osteoporosis?

My mother has been diagnosed as having osteoporosis.
The disease has caused her spinal column to collapse
and she is in constant severe pain.  She
is familiar with the causes and certainly knows the
symptoms but nobody seems to be giving her any help.
Other than taking calcium, which she is taking, is
there something that can be done?  Is there a specialist
somewhere that we can write to?  Any suggestions would
be appreciated -- thank you.
