It must be Bell 212A and talk to the computer/terminal via a RS-232C port. Hayes compatibility does not matter, as I will be writing my own terminal software. I would appreciate comments, both good and bad, on the various modems that are currently in the market. How well does it work? How sensitive is it to noisy lines and/or poor signal levels? What sort of features are there? What sort of known bugs exist? As I am not terribly wealthy, I will be purchasing from the lower end of the market, in the < $250 range. I would appreciate comments on the other modems though. Lastly, as I believe this discussion has already taken place on the net, please MAIL the comments/responses to me at the below address(es). By the way, whatever happened to Concord Technology Ltd.'s cheap 1200 bps modem? Anyone ever get one? Is it any good? I see their latest ad in Byte (Jan '86, page 379) has the modem listed at $139, down from $180 in the previous issue. Thank you, and remember, MAIL responses to me, I am sure that the net has heard enough of modems for a while. ----- -- Lewis R.
