Hartford, CT Lines: 28 The TAXAN 640 color monitor produces a crisp image; however, it requires a special cable (contains some resistors) when used with the AT&T PC. What follows is what happened to me when I tried to obtain the $35 cable for my AT&T PC 6300: 1. I called 8 local computer stores. Not one of the sales people I talked with had ever heard of such a cable. 2. I then called over 3 dozen computer mail order firms. Only one firm, 47 Street (New York), knew of the cable. Their price for the $35 cable is $100. (By the way, 47 Street sells ATT PCs as an unauthorized dealer - which means you get NO warranty from ATT.) 3. I called TAXAN 3 times for assistance. All I got was - a. "I'm sorry sir, we don't sell direct to customers. You'll have to continue to call other dealers." or b. "You can buy a cable from one of our distributors. I'll give you a few telephone numbers." 4. I then called a few TAXAN distributors. They had the $35 cable for $35!!! When I tried to order one, they said "We don't sell in such small quantities, but if you buy a TAXAN 640 at full retail ($785) we'll be happy to sell you a cable for $35." The TAXAN 640 sells for $519 - $530 at most mail order firms, so that means if you buy from a distributor, the cable for the AT&T PC effectively costs $300!! (such a deal) 5. Only after talking with one of Taxan's sales managers would they sell me a cable direct. If this is how TAXAN supports customers before the sale, just imagine how they support customers after the sale.
