Is 1.8 the latest release version? 2. Will there be any changes to the directory structure in future releases? For instance, tree structuring the directories to permit arbitrary length notesfile names? How about breaking the notes themselves out into separate files (like netnews 2.10+) to permit crosslinked files for cross-postings. 3. Is anyone going to attempt to beef up the response-recognition algorithm pick up articles with matching Re:'s more reliably (or at all). It is annoying to see what is clearly a response to a previous posting getting its own base note. While I am sure the above suggestions have been hashed out before, I really think that notes would be much more robust and managable if the notes and the responses where broken out into separate files. The ulimit question also figures here. I am NOT suggesting doing away with the index files, but after a crash, it should be simple to write a tool which could derive the index from the files in the database for that notesfile. -- Douglas H.
