  Whilst on the subject of misunderstood slang an aquaintance of mine brought
  an American (US - with apologies to Canadians and inhabitants of S.America)
  computer room to a shocked standstill with the comment "I'm just popping out
  for a quick fag".  (Translates to "I'm leaving the room for a short time for
  the purpose of smoking a cigarette")
