While overhead costs more to maintain than none, it is instructive to
compare maintenance costs of electric and diesel locomotives.
As an example, the downtime of the ASEA/GM electrics on Amtrak have a 
downtime of about 5%, (service, maintenance and repair time)
while 25-30% is the norm for diesel locomotives!
