Everyone (this includes ladies with furry hats in their eyes and people
who insist on skiing slopes much too difficult for their abilities),
NOT ONLY YOUNGSTERS, should ski in control and be aware of their 
surroundings.  Nevertheless, skiing fast or as you would say, as if the
slope had gates on it, does not necessarily imply skiing out of control
or skiing unsafely.  On the contrary, I have seen more "unsafe" skiers (this
is just my opinion of course) skiing slow, out of control, with huge
messy snow plows, a look of panic on their face, and their eyes glued
straight forward -- totally oblivious to anything on their sides or
comming from the rear.   Albeit, the person from the rear has the
responsibility to avoid the person in front, however, it doesn't
hurt to be aware of what's comming up on you while you ski.  Use your
eyes, ears (very helpful -- no Walkmans please), and whatever else
to help you be aware of your surroundings and thus contribute to skiing
safely.  Finally, for those of us who do ski fast, we may occasionally
find ourselves (somewhat whimsically) wishing that certain unmentioned
skiers skied a little faster while making clean cut parallel turns
instead of cluttering up the slope -- however, that comes with practice.

So, in retrospect, we could all do with some added awareness on the slopes
and some patience in regards to others skiing habits (that goes for me too).
Perhaps someday, when we're all expert skiers (how long you say?), we can
er...reminisce.  Until then, good skiing to you all and save up some good
stories will you?  No gripes please.
