In Romania, there is an additional tax on single and childless couples.
Abortion which was legal since 1966 and the main method of birth control
has been made illegal.  Women who are not pregnant or whose pregnancy
was terminated must report to a government run medical clinics to "explain."
According to government policy, the patriotic able-bodied Romanian women
should have an average of four children.

Proportion of women delaying sexual intercourse until marriage by year:
(The year given is the year of the first marriage for the women)

1960-1964 48%
1965-1969 42%
1970-1974 28%
1975-1979 21%

The proportion of births occurring to unmarried women has risen from
five percent in 1960 to 19 percent in 1982.  

In 1982, 30.4 percent of all first marriages of women aged 15 to 44 ended in 
divorce, nearly four percent within the first year.  [Another survey indicated
that 25 percent break up within two years.]

A study on happiness showed that looked at various groups e. g. (20-40
year olds, 40-60 and above) found on average that all three groups were
equally happy.  However, the 20-40 year old predicted that the 40-60 year
olds were happier and vice versa.  Both 20-40 year olds and 40-60 year old
predicted that the above 60 would be less happy.  Furthermore couples in
their late 20's with pre-school children were relatively less happy than
average and those couples without children in their late 20's were happier
than average.

Frederick's of Hollywood had one of its first losses.  Reason, its image is
"too sexy" and "not in good taste."  It is having trouble opening new
stores in luxury malls and has had to use the name, "Private Moments."

A study was recently done on the differences between men and women in 
spatial performance tests.

Groups of men and women were given spatial reasoning tests.  As previously
shown, the men did better than the women.  Some of the men and some of
the women were told to play video games for a couple of hours.  Then all
were retested.  All the men (whether they played video games or not)
and the women who didn't play video games showed no improvement.  However
the women who played video games did as well as the men.
