That's pretty gruesome if you ask me. Seriously though, I liked your article. I think one way to avoid getting leached off of in what you call a counseling relationship is to not get hooked by all of their crap. If you can be with them and let them realize that their horrible life is just what they have to work with (and not your deal particularly), then maybe they can be a real friend to you.
