Murphy has started his own agency in Colorado. I think the reason that those characters were dumped is that Steele was written as being much smarter and more suave from the second season on and it wouldn't do to have those characters sniping at him. Also, at that time, Hart to Hart was on the air with Max (father figure) and they wanted a mother figure. See, I was writing a spec script for Steele in which Murph (James Read, currently doing the North and South miniseries route) and Bernice Fox (Janet DeMay) figured heavily. Boy, was I pissed when they changed the format of the show...
