A pile of old news got reposted somehow, so excuse me if this has
already been suggested...

GNU Emacs' Rmail mode is a very good way to read your mail (if you think
that Emacs is user friendly, people are very sharply divided on this
issue and please let's not discuss it) especially when you have your
mail in one window and Mail Summary in another.
