We also experienced this same behavior when the printer was out of
paper for an extended period of time.  And also, if I remember
correctly, when someone kept the printer in manual feed for a long
period of time.

I complained about this problem to Imagen a L-O-N-G time ago.  I'm glad
that I finally have a fix!
