Does anybody know if anyone has written code to enable one to import alien
file protocols to VMS ?

eg.
   given a VMS m/c and a UNIX m/c and some File Access Protocol between them,
   one would like to be able to access UNIX files from VMS by specifying a 
   file like DFA0:[USR.GAMES.ROGUE] for the UNIX file /usr/games/rogue.

We've thought of a few ways of doing it, but none of them are particulary
neat.
