I live in Austin Texas, and although not a sanctioned racer, have riden some hard miles in 100-degree heat with a helmet. It's too hot to be comfortable, no doubt. The main reason I wear my helmet, though, is a fear of cars, not fear of crashing, even if riding in a group. If I'm riding away from the city for an entire ride, I'll usually go without. When I commute, I _always_ wear the helmet. I don't think racers should be required to wear helmets. -- Matt A.
