I currently have a 12-1/2% mortgage on my house.  With the current
rates at about 10-1/2%, I am considering refinancing.

I just called a local bank, and they claimed that I have to retain an
attorney to deal with them.  This seems somewhat ridiculous.  Has
anybody else been through this before?  Any advice?  I also would
appreciate recommendations for attorneys in the Holmdel area.

I will summarize any interesting replies to this newsgroup.
