It's 10 deg. F outside?? Arrrrghghghgh!!") brought my mind back to warmer days, so I decided to make the rounds of my local cycle shops. I was looking mostly at the new stock from years past (i.e., the old new)- like '82 and '83. A couple of bikes grabbed my attention, like an '82 Kaw KZ550 and an '83 Kaw Spectre (KZ750 something or other). The question I have about an older bike is that it's been sitting around for such a long time- will there be long term problems with the machine because of this? Will I be replacing the tires, battery, and fork seals in 2 months because they've all dried out? I also looked at a Suzuki GS650. It's an '83, but has 100 test miles on it. I'd bet the dealer hasn't bothered to protect these bikes from the aging that comes with sitting over a length of time- like squirting oil in the cylinders of the Suzi. Would that be necessary on a bike with that little mileage? Should I avoid that one? Thanks a lot for your help. Send me mail; I'll summarize to the net. -mike schwager -- {ihnp4,convex,pur-ee}!uiucdcs!schwager schwager%uiuc@csnet-relay.arpa
