Other minor modes (auto-fill, overwrite, and picture) appear to be buffer local. When two buffers are on the screen, each having its own window, the mode line shows auto-fill, overwrite, or picture only in the buffer in which it was invoked. When I enter abbrev-mode, however, abbrev-mode shows up in the mode line of both buffers. Is this the way it is supposed to work? Can it be made buffer local? I have tried various incantations of make-variable-buffer-local and make-local-variable without success. I am currently using GNU Emacs version 16.60.7. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
