The problem is that the (whatever) is *not* turned to stone. You only get the usual corpse. If you tame a cockatrice with a scroll of taming (or polymorph your dog into a cockatrice) when it hits another monster you end up with a pile of rocks which is the appropriate (i think) result. There is a routine 'mstone()' which, i think, turns a monster into a pile of rocks and is invoked when your pet cockatrice hits another monster. Now the $64 question. Should hack be modified so that hitting a monster with a dead cockatrice will turn that monster into a pile of rocks? I think that this would be appropriate considering the effects of a tame cockatrice hitting other monsters. I believe that this is relevant to all versions of hack although we are using 1.0.3 here. Opinions, comments etc. all welcome. -- Ray Allen | "A thing is not necessarily true because a man dies for it." utcsri!ray | - Oscar Wilde as quoted in "Parachutes & Kisses" by Erica Jong
