This morning while I was driving in to work (no comments about the
wonderfulness of commuting) I heard a marvelous report on WXTR (FM 104):
It seems that Coke was looking for an appropriate name for themselves when
they entered the soft drink market in China.  Since they had to use the
Chinese alphabet, they couldn't call themselves Coca Cola, instead they had to
come up with some sort of translation.

They hired a firm that specializes in such matters who came up with something
that sounded like "Coca Cola" (I'm afraid that my memory isn't good enough
to remember what it was) which translates as "The mouth rejoices" and sales
have been very good.

That was considerably better then Cokes original choice which also sounded
somewhat like "Coca Cola" but instead translated as "Bite the wax tadpole."
