It reminds me of driving home from the airport one time on the freeway: we were a couple of cars behind someone whose trunk was too stuffed with luggage, when the trunk lid popped open. Now the driver can't see anything behind him and this is bad, right. But he obviously thinks that because he can't see anything behind him there is nothing there. So, he immediately SLAMS on the brakes and veers over two lanes through traffic to get to the shoulder and "safety". Five cars behind him go scrambling everywhere to avoid him. I sort of wish one of us had been armed.
