This article is not satiric. I found the news coverage following the space shuttle extremely revolting and patriotic. While Reagan is murdering hundreds of people daily around the world, he is deeply saddened by seven people's deaths, when these seven people knew that they were taking a chance. I am not disagreeing that these deaths were awful, but then quite a few deaths are, aren't they? People are complaining about shuttle jokes much more furiously than anyone did about Rock Hudson jokes and I find that appalling. Jokes are often a very valid and effective method of refuting ridiculous but popular perspectives of current events. I think that a rash of shuttle jokes would do all of us some good. Besides which, they would probably be quite funny. Alan J Rosenthal {linus|decvax}!utzoo!utcs!flaps, {ihnp4|allegra}!cbosgd!utcs!flaps
