More clever, too. (Intentional or sincere? - ie terrific wit or else only half such...) Death is horrible *but* inevitable, and so is a part of life. You have to reconcile it somehow - if you can't laugh about it in some context (i mean if it insurmountably *has* to be treated with seriousness) than it will effectively overshadow any sense of the pleasures in life - it will outweigh them. I'm not suggesting there's any profound valor in these jokes, only that there's no irrevocable sanctity to this (or any other!) topic. Irrevocable sanctity is a retreat from life, and admission of defeat. While making jokes isn't necessarily (probably isn't usually) any transcendence, getting rigid minded (that's "sanctimonious", folks) about their rightness or wrongness (as far as i'm concerned) is outright defeat. As someone quoted, "Break on through to the other side..." Ken Manheimer ...!seismo!nbs-amrf!manheime or manheime@nbs-amrf.uucp (Everything leaks. Not excessively; just enough.)
