I agree with your assessment of the exaggerated response to the space
shuttle tragedy.  However, in this indifferent age, any response to
a tragedy is to be encouraged.

The next time a disaster occurs (e.g., the recent train crash in alberta)
we should all measure our response based on the human cost -- regardless 
of whether the disaster was seen live on national TV.
