This would make things a bit harder for your own code to mess around with icons - you'd have to know a bit more about the file structure to do so. Rather than spending time on this, Commodore should work on speeding up the drives, not necessarily in hardware, probably by just doing a bit more software caching. I liken combining all the icons into one to "notes" vs. "news". I've just moved to a "notes" system, and while the "notes" interface is a bit better than "news", it is a bit harder to use if, say, you want to grep for something - since "notes" are all in one file, while "news" is in several.
