I have the new version of SynCalc and have had no problems loading it on my
1050.  I have a 256K XL (ala CDY) instead of the 130XE, but I don't think
this should make a difference.  My drive runs at about 288 give or take a 
few RPMs, sounds like you just got a bad copy.  I suggest returning it, if
you still have problems I believe Synapse will exchange it for one that
works.
