I have had the system for 4 years and have had to replace one drive. With some quad drives, you can get by using Double Side, Double Density diskettes. Not so with the CDC drives. You have to buy the soft sector double side, quad density diskettes. These are typically twice as expensive. The drives are very fast and I shuffle a lot of bytes, so I have been happy with them. Can't beat the $49 price. Plese send me the address of your mail order "surplus" place. I might pick up a few spares at that price.
