I just saw  a reference to "Larry Kenyon's Old Disk Test Program" 
in a Usenet  article.    I gather that this is a 'down and dirty' 
utility for accessing all of the registers for the Sony drives.

If this can be  posted  to  the  net  I  believe that it would be 
interesting and useful for 'the rest of us'.
