problem with Apple Modem:
I recently purchased a 300 baud modem for the Mac and had nothing but
problems.  I was using Macterminal Software and when I would auto-dial,
the modem would try to dial but the dial tone whould never leave. (I was 
using a pulse dial phone which is pretty old.)  Sometimes I would get through
but usually I had no sucess.  I took the modem back to the dealer with my  
software and everything seemed to work fine.  I wanted a different Modem and
none were in stock so I unloaded it and got a refund fortunately.  I figure
the problem was one of the following:
       
                  1)  faulty modem
                  2)  bad software
                  3)  bad phone lines

Has anyone had a problem of this sort and if so found out anything I 
have not.
