Could some kind soul please let me have a summary of >the info (if it isn't too long, it might be worth posting it anyway). The bug I have observed is that when a file on the hard disk has the read-only bit set (i.e. is marked as read-only) and backing it up causes it to span over more than one disk, the restore is corrupt. I don't know if the problem occurs in backup or restore. (Does it matter from a practical viewpoint?) The only way I have found to live with this is to simply not use the read-only bit. This is inconvenient for me because untrained people use my PC but what else can I do? I discovered the bug when part of my database was lost. I managed to fix it, but not thanks to DOS. Tom Reingold
