You may notice that if you go back to the skipped article, you'll find
that is has been cross-posted to one or more other newsgroups. The
first newsgroup listed, if you subscribe to it, will be the group the 
article appears in. Chances are, you are in a subsequent newsgroup.
This way, you only see the article once. This is how it works on our
system.  This is only an observation, I don't know whether or not it's
documented.
