February '86 Smithsonian has an article about cabooses, and in
particular how they are gradually disappearing from trains.  They have
been obsoleted by technology, basically.  The story is nostalgic and
somewhat informative, with some good pictures of both present and
past.  Maybe this list can come up with some good suggestions for what
to do with them all; they are mostly sitting around on sidings now.
