Try John Christopher's 'Tripods' trilogy, The White Mountains, The City of Gold and Lead, and the other book I can't quite think of. I read these at about that age and enjoyed them quite a bit. Is anybody besides me watching the BBC Tripods series on PBS ? What do you think of, both as a television effort and as a comparison to the books from which it springs ?
