I'm sorry to pass on the news that Frank Herbert passed away, presumably
today, apparently of liver cancer from which he had been suffering for
some time.  This information came my way from an assistant editor at a
New York SF magazine during a coversation today.

My sympathies to his family and friends.  My condolences to all us fans
and pros who looked upon his works and his success with admiration.
