I wouldn't want to see us become too homogenized. If Alice Walker can write in dialect, so can Becky and Frye. I am reminded of the scene in Neil Simon's _Murder by Death_ in which Lionel Twain (played by the highly literate Truman Capote) expressess his irritation at Inspector Wang (played by the highly irreverent Peter Sellers) for his imperfect grammar. When Wang observes, "Moose on wall is watching us," we hear Capote's disembodied voice saying, "It's *THE* moose, Mr. Wang, *THE* moose. Say your God damn articles!" --Barry Kort
