Chicago - Computation Center Lines: 9 I have a theory on Spock's first name derived totally from the series, I believe some of the novelists have contradicted it. First, in "This Side of Paradise", the Girl says "I don't even know your first name." to which Spock replies "You couldn't pronounce it." In "Journey to Babel", Kirk refers to Amanda as "Mrs. Sarek" to which she responds "Amanda, please, Captain. I'm afraid you couldn't pronounce the family name." These are from memory, I may have a word or two out of place. Anyway, this indicates that Vulcans' first names are their patrilinial names, while their last names are their familiar names.
