   I don't know if they still have them around, but a few years ago I used
to be able to go to my local hobby store and buy the plastic model kits for
the Enterprise (I bought 12 of them and made the whole fleet with the extra
decals provided) and I also made the Klingon warship and the Romulan Bird
of Prey ship.  My brother had one that I didn't really care for...it was Spock
shooting a multi-headed creature with his phaser.  Anyway, to get back to the
point, I also had a model kit that consisted of a phaser, communicator, and
the tricorder.  Granted they are only plastic molds, but from a few feet away
they looked real enough.
   I seem to remember getting some of the kits at a branch of the toy store
chain called Child World (the one with the silly panda bear mascot).  You
might want to look into it, but if you do find one and purchase it, don't
plan on putting it through any rough stuff...they are only plastic  ( I went
through several sets because I thought they would be neat to play Star Trek
with my friends in the back yard)
    (Come to think of it, I remember building the K-7 Space Station one and
also the Galileo-7 one too...did I forget any?)
