This name is also given as the first name of Spock's father, Sarek -- lending support to the theory that it is a patrilineal family name. I do not know whether this name has been officially blessed by the Great Bird of the Galaxy. :-} If you haven't already read ISHMAEL, by the way, I highly recommend it.
