Thanks to all of you who responded to my original problem. All the 
solutions solved one problem, how to get files into the verbatim
environment.

The other part is how do I float this output to the top of the next
page? The problem is that the figure environment does not act sensibly
if the figure is larger than one page - it writes off the end
of the paper and loses what it can't fit in.

Any help would be most welcome. Mail I had indicated that there
were several others interested in this problem.
