You were right, alu means potato, and gobi means cabbage. However, the
gobi in this dish is from phul-gobi, which is the hindi word for 
cauliflower. Interestingly enough, phul (or phool or fool, hindi phonetics
don't translate well  into english ones) means flower in hindi.
