The time has come to say many thanks to the following for their helpful replies: Ron Heiby cbosgd!cuae2!heiby John P. Nelson, Moderator, mod.sources hao!seismo!harvard!panda!teddy!jpn John Gilmore hao!seismo!lll-crg!l5!gnu Ihor Kinal ihnp4!houxm!hropus!ijk Mike Burg trwrb!felix!abspc!mb Pat Sullivan {akgua|akguc|ihnp4}!sortac!pls All suggested compiling with the '-f' option, which works like a charm. John Nelson sent us a copy of compress, Version 4, which was offered by others as well. It solves all problems. One curious note - even version 1.6 compiles and executes properly on a 7300. Does any one know of any other ugly differences between the C compilers on the 3B2/400 and the 7300? Again, many thanks from Carl Brandauer.
