There are 2 sorts of tests which would be useful: 1. Tests for validating a C compiler 2. Efficiency tests to test the quality of code generation Test 1 should be fairly automatic so that it can be run as a sort of diagnostic but should also be amenable to hand inspection. Similarly test 2 really needs to be inspected by hand unless one is interested in comparing 2 different compilers for the same machine. What experiences have people had with testing?
