I have a non-cluster 8600 with the standard one UNIBUS. According to the VSOS I have a DW780-MA in the 8600 already plus space for a DW780-MB. Now, what is the difference between a -MA and a -MB? In my system, it looks like there is an IDTC (Integrated Disk and Tape Controller) stuck into the slot that the VSOS says can take a DW780-MB. Since we don't use the IDTC, I just wanna pull it out and put the 2nd UNIBUS adapter there (I have an expansion cabinet with MASSBUS adapters for disks and tapes). The UNIBUS adapter is coming from a 785. Does that mean it's a -MA? or a -MB? or something else entirely? does it even matter? Why is the VSOS such a pain in the ass...? I assume I could always put the UNIBUS adapter into my expansion cabinet, but I want to save slots and use the CPU slot if at all possible. Besides, the exp cab is full of non-DEC power supplies, and someone might have a tizzy if I tried to tell them to plug that there DW780 into that there "tainted" power supply... :-) Thanks, /Kevin Carosso engvax!kvc @ csvax.caltech.edu Hughes Aircraft Co.
